HB 732 - slots bill - alive and kicking
March 5, 2002 We are shocked. No kidding. We have discovered through the intrepid legwork of an alert citizen that House Bill 732 - the slots bill floating around the House of Delegates in Annapolis- is not dead. Not only is it not dead, it’s scheduled for a hearing in Annapolis on March 15 at 2 p.m. Can you believe it?? This after a key member of our Delegation - that key member being Cas Taylor - told Allegany County voters last week that House Bill 732 was dead. Dead. Disappeared. No longer in existence. Of course, he also claimed last week that he had never seen House Bill 732, along with his co-hort, Kevin Kelly, even though the first reading of the bill took place February 6. Given that Kevin is a sponsor of the bill and Cas one of its biggest supporters, we find it a little hard to believe that they didn’t know the bill’s content, let alone about the bill’s reading Feb. 6. We also find it hard to believe that they didn’t know a hearing was scheduled for March 15. And we find it really, really hard to believe that they both apparently continue to think that they can fib to the voters of Allegany County about what’s going on in Annapolis. Yo, boys - times have changed. Could you get with the program? We know what you’re doing down there. So give it up already. As for House Bill 732, we’ll continue to keep watch. We don’t want to miss anything.
